City of Chicago COVID SAFETY

Image

Please be aware of City of Chicago Department of Health guidelines that may require proof of vaccine and wearing masks whenever indoors.  These guidelines may change, so please visit the City of Chicago website https://www.chicago.gov/covid  and see the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness website for additional details and updates at https://www.lakeshoresf.com/reopening  for the most current policy and guidelines.

INDOOR TRIATHLON -  COVID ADJUSTMENTS
Masks are currently NO LONGER REQUIRED (as of April 2022), but this is always subject to change based on local guidelines (see link above).  Additionally:

  • When masks are mandated indoors, they are obviously NOT required while actively swimming (that would be a real challenge!).
  • Our events may include cycling indoors (where masks may be required at times), or outdoors on the rooftop (where masks may be removed) while actively competing during times of tighter guidelines.
  • Depending on guidelines, weather conditions, and air temperature, the cycling component may be moved outdoors or indoors and thus MASKS MAY BE REQUIRED during both the BIKE and RUN, except when actively eating or drinking (only when required by local guidelines).
  • Note that regardless of local guidelines and policies, we ask everyone to be courteous to others, social distance where and when appropriate, and know that we will always make appropriate adjustments to keep areas socially distanced where appropriate.
  • The club has implemented several additional safety precautions, including advanced air filtration, as outlined at https://www.lakeshoresf.com/reopening/

MASK TIPS:  BRING MULTIPLE MASKS!
If masks are required by local or club guidelines, we recommend bringing two masks (or more) masks as they may get sweaty when working out during each event.  Many athletes prefer to have a fresh mask for each event when competing in indoor triathlons during tighter COVID restrictions.  We strongly suggest the use of workout-specific "sport masks" such as the Under Armor "UA SportsMask" that can be comfortably worn while working out at higher intensities: https://amzn.to/3q4ehQ1

CITY OF CHICAGO - DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH - PUBLIC GATHERINGS GUIDANCE - PROOF OF VACCINATION OR NEGATIVE TEST
For public gatherings and events, City of Chicago guidelines may require attendees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to attending. To create a safe event, participants, guests, and volunteers may be asked to present documentation of vaccination or recent negative test status.  We recommend taking a photo of your vaccination or test as a backup in case you forget to bring your actual documentation.  If you need a test, please see several nearby pharmacies that provide low-cost rapid testing options such as the Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 Rapid Self-Test.
